Hello everyone, i just bought a nice 66 Mustang from a good friend, and the car runs good, but, not that i floor the car but when i give do get a chance to floor it the alternator pops and the car seems to want to turn off a bit. What seems to be the Problem??
i know my timing might be off a bit but, would that be the problem? or would it need a nice good tune up?

Can you explain "Alternator pop"? Not sure that I have ever heard an Alternator pop. Not sure that I would want to. Would have to think it would not be good...
But,,,,,, just theorizing here. If there was an electrical problem, and the car was to loose power, a hesitation would definitely occur. No juice, no spark, no ignition, no go......
This really becomes a problem on EEC equipped vehicles. Low battery voltage affects injector duty cycle and a host of other things. Most EECs have a table to account for variations in input voltage to accommodate this.
Now, if you are heavy into the gas and the carburetor pops, well then.......
Timing issues are a definite possibility. Also bad plugs or wires can cause this.

Re: Mustang Performance... The only popping I can think of would be the carb, and this happens when the points are worn and the timing is off, also very dangerous. It can start a fire in the carb.. happened to me! time for new points and condenser.

I would definitely say carb. It doesn't have to be the points and timing, although it often is. The carb itself could be tuned wrong and be causing all your problems. That's what happened to my 67.

Re: Mustang Performance... The pop you hear is coming from the carb.
A lean mixture can do that and is most often the cause.
Make sure you have the choke adjusted properly, the accelerator pump is functioning and adjusted correctly, and that the idle is properly adjusted to allow the transfer slots to do their job.
If you are unfamiliar with tuning carbs then get information that covers your specific application and carb. Read it, ask questions, and when you understand it then tune the carb - or take it to a shop and let them tune the carb.
