Dan, put a real oil pressure gauge on it and test the pressure.  when I have had this problem, the bearings were worn.

I'm seeing the opposite. My gauge goes high at startup, then after things
warm up, it drops down pretty low at idle. At highway speeds, it's not as
high as I would like to see it (takes about 3000 RPM to get it to
mid-scale). No lifter/tappet noise, not burning oil, not leaking oil.
