You're comparing a racing carb (the DP holley) to a street carb (the
Edlebrock). And to be frank, I believe that is an unfair comparison.
Each has its advantages and disadvantages.
I think you'll find that the right (read: correct application) stock
-out of the box- Holley ... say, a LIST-1850 600 CFM w/vacuum
secondaries and electric choke -- will be just as streetable as the
Edlebrock and will still provide you with the 'kick in the pants'
performance of your DP... while still being gentle on your wallet (and
gas bill).
The only major difference between them IMHO, is that you can tweak the
Holley with different cams, valve springs, power valve, etc., and that's
where people often get frustrated. (Some people go hog-wild...
DAMHIKT... and swap out the air bleeds, and main jets and plates, etc.)
With an exhaust gas analyzer (or a friend that has one) you can make
these things perform beyond your wildest dreams - and still have
reasonable fuel economy ... if you drive like a granny. :-)
The advantage of the Edlebrock is that none of that matters - its pure
simplicity.
(average... but simple.)
So choose well, grasshopper.
thats my opinion. (get yer own! :-o)
