Re: [Classic Mustang] Starting Problem (Help)



       If you perform the "jump" test, running a wire from the positive battery terminal to the positive post on the coil and still have no spark, there's only three things I can think of which could cause the problem. (1) The coil itself. (2) Something in the distributor which would include the lead wire going to the distributor and any "guts." (3) The rotor isn't turning because of broken timing chain. Even a chain which has slipped a couple of teeth should still produce a spark even if the engine doesn't spark, If you have a no spark condition remove the cap, crank the engine and verify the rotor is turning. If it is I can't think of anything else except the coil or something in the distributor. By jumping the wire directly and having nothing else attached to either post on the coil, you are eliminating all factory wiring, switches and accessories.
