I'm having a problem getting my 1966 Stang started. Would appreciate any idea. I've tried everything including jumping up an down. It's my daily driver. Here's what I did this weekend.
1. I changed the oil (10W 40) (1969 302 10:1 compression bored 60 over.
2. I pulled the valve covers to re-paint them, while they were off I tightened the rocker arm nuts a 1/4 turn.
3. put the new filter on; new oil; valve covers back on and it would crank but not start. tried it a few more times and no spark. I checked the plug wires that I didn't knock one loose pulling the valve covers and nope. I tried to jump the battery off and still the same thing; It cranked but wouldn't fire. I put the battery on the charger and fully charged it and the same thing the engine wouldn't fire. I pulled the starter and sure enough the teeth on the started were ground down (probably from my too many attempts to crank it). I put a new starter on and it does the same thing cranks but will not fire. The teeth on the flywheel looked fine. I shot a little starter fluid in the carb and still no fire. I replaced and gapped the new spark plugs and still crank but not fireing up.
I'm at my wits end and can't figure it out. It never sits, and runs great 10 to 20 miles a day. Could I have messed up by tightening the rocker arm nuts? I also backed them off a quarter turn and still it wouldn't fire up. Help
Thanks, Jon
