Year, I was thinking the same thing. You probably disabled a contact
on the coil. Could be the battery or the condenser wire contact, and
would most likely be at the coil, although it could be on the
distributer side too. As Walt said, no spark is a clear indicator that
you have an ignition problem.

Outside of the distributor cap and rotor, there's only three things here
that can cause that kind of problem - points are closed, condenser is
shorted (or open), or the coil is bad. Given the age of these cars, and
the brittleness of the wiring, its most likely a wiring problem.

If you have a volt-ohm meter, see what the voltage reading is at the
coil with the ignition on - it should be in the 6v-8v DC range. IF
there isn't any - then as Walt said, a jumper wire from the battery to
the + terminal on the coil will fix that.

If memory serves, the shop manual has a pretty good diagnosis procedure
for determining the root cause of your problem.

Clearly its not the starter or battery - especially if its turning
over. No spark = No go.
