Well, I'd be inclined to agree... except that you'll be drawing some 50-60 amps that you'll be drawing through that puny ground strap every time you run the starter.  The reason the battery is grounded on the engine is because the single largest draw in the whole car is through the starter.  Hence the large ground cable, and substantial grounding strap.

I'd like to make a suggestion kind of related to this subject. If you're not restoring a car to "everything factory correct" this has worked for me for over 30 years. I drilled a hole in the radiator support and bolted the negative cable to the support. That grounds the chassis. Then, to the same bolt, I attached a cable with eyelets at both ends and ran that cable from the bolt in the support to the engine block. You can eliminate the ground strap at the firewall and won't ever have to worry about a bad ground again.
