Re: [Classic Mustang] 1969-70 Trunk Lid Prop Rod

Hello guys,

Great debate about the originality of the prop rod installations. I've owned three '70 Mach 1's, all with what appeared to be originally installed spoilers, but only my last seemed to have the prop rod installed. No way to verify the originality of the first two though.

But, does anyone own one with the prop rod, and can they tell me the length of the prop rod? Someone in this thread mentioned pictures of the mounting points; that would be nice to see a picture of the underside of the decklid, if possible.

Thanks for the lively discussion!

The 69 Mach 1 didn't come out with a spoiler, it was an over the counter option.  The Boss came out with the spoiler; hence, the prop rod.

But not all 69-70s.  My 70 Sportsroof  and 70 Mach one did not have them.  I can understand the Sportroof, no spoiler.  But the Mach 1 did have the spoiler and no prop rod.

Production line variations or dealer added item perhaps?

All I'm telling you is the history, since I don't have a 69 or 70 fastback
with which to experiment. Ford did in fact put a prop rod on 69/70
fastbacks. They wouldn't have done so had it not been necessary.
