Can't answer #1 definitively (I believe they are the same basic carb
with different venturi sizes but I'm probably wrong) but if 80 grit
isn't getting through your paint in quick fasion you either need more
compressor or a better sander. A D/A sander (Dual Action it spins and
wobbles) or an in line sander (AKA body sander, file sander, body file
etc.(or both) are best for stripping cars. An orbital is really meant
for finish sanding of wood, with medium and fine grits. If you only have
a orbital then maybe go get a 3M stripping wheel which is basically an
extremely aggressive scotch brite. Actually I'd pretty much recommend
the 3M stripper in as big a wheel diameter as you can find with as big
(high amp) drill as possible.
