Re: [Classic Mustang] Re: lifter question.

for the most part it is gone. occasionally it comes back.....but when i purchased the car from a guy in orting (the mustang doctor i think what he was going by) it had a bad lifter noise and we checked the oil when we got home and there was almost none ( it took about 3 quarts),which was funny becuase the guy said he checked all the fluids and said it was okay to drive. Also the reason i didnt check it sooner was i didnt drive it home and i would suspect oil pressure would be low if no oil , but my aunt drove it home becuase she could get it insured and she also doesnt know jack shit about cars.

I'm a bit late in replying to this, but are you sure it's a lifter noise? I had a noisy lifter ('65, 289)for months. I heard it at idle mostly when the engine was cold, but at some other times too. One day while adjusting the Holley, I moved a plug wire a bit and the "lifter noise" stopped. When I moved the wire back where it had been, the noise returned. The plug wire was allowing the high voltage to jump to the exhaust manifold. I know the difference between the sound of a bad lifters and high voltage spark jumping to ground. Usually each one has a distinct sound, but not this time...
