Re: [Classic Mustang] Re: HOW ABOUT a 69 coupe..was a possible GT. WAS an orig 390 4 speed BASKET CASE?

Thank you Michael. Thank you Tony.
It defintely is an S code. Not sure of the trans...wide or close ratio? It is a shame, when I bought it I garaged my 69 Mach 1 and 71 Torino GT and left the 390 coupe in the yard. I moved away for 5-6 years and found it rusted very bad. I saw a couple of 390 cars going for about $25,000 on Ebay. I figure the cost to restore it would be about the same minus the labor. Have to track down a numbers correct 390 engine and trans.

Thanks again guys and this really is an awesome club.
Mike

Check the VIN number to see if the engine code is an "S" (5th character) and then you will know if it is a 390 car.  A 390 coupe with a spoiler?  I don't think they made that kind of critter unless it is a fastback. Matter of fact, the spoiler was only available on the 69 Boss Mustangs so that option from the factory is out.  That was probably put on there at one point in time.  To my knowledge, the Mach 1 and Grande were the only cars with the rim blow steering wheel unless it came off a Cougar.

Before you move forward, you should get the Marti report on it.  That will tell you pretty quick what it had and what it is.  If ... it was an original 390 GT mustang, you've got a pretty rare pony.  I'd have to think twice about chopping it up.

Are these worth a complete restoration? Now has a 351c 2v C6 auto..Has not ran in 20 years. Has factory wood rim blow steering. Has 4 speed floor pedals.  HAS  standard dash w/ factory tach. Has factory rear spoiler. BB shock towers. 9 in rear. Not sure of gears. Has GT gas cap.  All glass, trim  intact, and metal interior panels in the back. I saw they only made a few 390 coupes in 69.  It HAD a 70 429 Thunderjet w/ BB C6 when I bought it. (Still have, but the 429 is froze up.) From the firewall forward good condition. From firewall back toward rear, rusty floorpans, rusty doors, rusty lower quarter panels. Is this worth a complete restoration? With a 69 390 engine/4 speed?  On a scale of 1-10. I give the body a 3.

ALSO, Do any parts from a BIG BLOCK C6 fit a 351C C6? Hoping to put the 429 in a 70 Torino and swap in a 4 speed trans.

What you say...strip the 69 coupe or not?

Thank you,
Mike

Contact Mr. Rick Kopec at the Shelby American Automobile Club. The value of these cars plus their limited production often means there is someone out there who will bring it back to life.
