Did you follow the tuning tips with it changing the jets and maybe the metering rods? Check the plugs and I bet it is too lean. Mine needed a lot of adjusting. The tuning directions are online also from Edelbrock.

Original ignition? you need to upgrade it and then do a plug check to check the jetting in the carb.
