There are all sorts of off-the-shelf remedies out there. Most if not all are band-aids. Could just be some debris that is clogging the lifter and not allowing it to get the proper amount of oil. In which case you could try to add a cleaner before the next oil change. But you run the risk of breaking even more stuff loose, clooging even more ports, and creating a bigger problem.
If the lifter has gone bad you can roll the dice and try to replace a single lifter. I have had mixed results with this method. In 7 instances the procedure went just fine with no issues. In one instance, the lifter and cam did not play well together, ended up with a round lobe on the cam and a shot lifter. It is because of this possibility that they recomend that you replace the cam and all lifters at the same time.
But......
Before you go down the new cam path, take a good critical assessment of the motor. Run a compression test, check vacuum, oil pressure, and if possible, run a leak down test. This will let you know what kid of overall shape the motor is in. Hate to have you spend all of the time getting the lifter issue resolvedonly to find the motor only has 10PSI oil pressure and one or more weak cylinders......
But, on the + side, it is getting warmer out!!!
