1. Turn on defroster and heat. Does the windshield fog up, smell and feel like antifreeze. Could very well be the heater core or at a minimum a leak in the heater itself.
2. Run a pressure test on the cooling system. Looks like an old bicycle tire pump with an adapter for the radiator. Pressurize to the rating on the cap. Then watch the dial to see if you loose pressure. If so, start looking for leaks. (start under the dash since that is where you noticed the puddle.)
