I happened to have my alternator out of the car with the harness attached. There is nothing on the STA terminal and there is a thick wire (on my car it is black with red stripe, looks like it could be a 10 gauge) is attached to the "gnd" screw and has a terminal which went directly to the block. Sounds like you found it. Wish I had been that lucky.........
