We built and raced a 70 Duster drag car for a friend who liked racing
and wanted one on the track, sponsored by his business. 535hp 340 with
a glide. Transbrake, 1:88 first gear and 5:13 Dana 60. He wanted to
take a pass. He launched well (about 5,200 rpm), but for whatever
reason he hit the transbrake about 75 down track. Passed *all* the
transfluid out that little vent. We never could get the trans apart, or
even pull the input shaft out. The owner lost interest in driving after
that.

Most trans have breather lines that vent the case to outside air. If the
breather line gets a hole rubbed into it it will let water in on a rainy
drive. or a deep puddle incident.
Me and a Buddy once discovered these the hard way, being naive teen
agers with a Jeep that was supposed to be unstopable, we got stuck in
mud and found out a few very expensive lessions about preparing an every
day Jeep to be a serious off road jeep... The main one being to always
check and make sure breathers and vents lines are attached to Trannys
and T-cases correctly/securely and make sure they are still routed up
into the engine bay (they come loose and get rubbed in half over the
years sometimes... And to always drop the fluids afterward even if the
breather lines check out.
