I have a 71 and two 73 Mach 1s. I think they are just a slightly larger
version of what you have. I stripped all of them to the shell, and the
paint to bare metal; if the original primer stays that is OK. And that
is my advise to you. The difference between doing it right and just
kinda fixing it is mostly time, not money. And the result is much more
satisfying.

One specific tip; headliners are easy to make in one piece and some
loops, out of the plushest material you want, and plush home style
carpet is easy, the secret is a bunch of fifty pound sacks of feed to
weight it down to form it. You don't need to limit yourself to the the
thin OEM stuff.

Have fun.
