[Classic Mustang] a Mustang Fan just stopping in....

Hi All,

I have been a member here for a few months now. I don't have much to post
about since I don't currently have a Mustang. It is currently a hope to get
another one some day. I just need to get a HOUSE with a garage first! I have
always been a Ford fan and have not owned a non-Ford vehicle. It has been
about 15 years since I owned my last Mustang. My passion has always been
stock looking but not necessarily original from the factory Mustangs. The
ALL matching numbers are the high dollars cars I definitely don't have to
own. There were Mustang businesses back then that would build you a "new"
one to your specs. I am not opposed to that. I imagine that they are still
around. But I don't believe in customization. Who am I to mess with rolling
perfection? (:->) I have been watching more car related shows lately like
the car auctions. I like the show Pass Time on the Speed Channel. My car
collection acquired this year is large scale die cast 65 Shelby, 69 Mach 1
and a 65 Cobra.

I have had 3 Mustangs in my life starting with a true junk yard dog
resurrection for my first car in 1979. It was a 6 cyl 65 coupe with a 72 302
installed. I had 4 lugs in the front and 5 in the rear, until I actually
broke a front spindle 1 night wile driving! I did the 5 lug front end
conversion then. My Pop and I painted it in the back yard with the summer
breeze blowing and all! I have a page here that you can look at.
http://www.lanestrains.com/Other_Interests.htm Note that I went to the
Shelby convention this past summer that was completely overwhelming! I just
loved it.

In case you can't tell my main and daily obsession is model trains. Therein
lies where the toy money conflict will be in the future, getting a Mustang
or getting my train layout started!

My Brother in Law has a newer Mustang dubbed "The Pumpkin" because of its
stock but glowing orange paint job. I think it is 1 generation older then
the current style. I read some of his Mustang magazines. I see I have been
passed by with a completely new wave of parts and technology that did not
exist when back I was in it.

Which leads me to the main reason for posting....

I can remember that there was some rare Fairmont that was sought after to
put disc brakes on the rear because it fit on Mustangs. Since getting my
first new vehicle (1988 Bronco II) I have grown accustomed as we all have to
the creature features that are now standard like power disc brakes, fuel
injection and electronic ignition etc. Are these items available now for the
classic Mustangs all while keeping its stock appearance? I would deviate
from stock to make the car more drivable and most importantly more
dependable. That was the question back then with my daily driver Mustangs in
less then perfect weather - will it start? Not starting is completely not an
option for me now. I am not the motorhead I was years ago and will not pick
it up again. I don't even change my oil now. If I get a Mustang it will be
dependable or I won't have one.

As a side note my neighbor sold be his original dual point distributor from
his all original 1970 Boss 302 back in the day for $35.00. I ran it in my 65
until I sold it. From my eBay dreaming searches such rare parts are big $$
now! I eBay dream search at least once a month. If you have not looked
lately there are a TON of real Shelbys going in the $100K range. Take your
pick......

If you made it this far thanks for reading my ramblings. Please reply
directly to bill@lanestrains.com if you care to address some of my
questions. Onward to a better 2009. It will not be that tough!

Thank You,
Bill Lane
