Noel;
How many zeros do you want to spend? Even a seemingly innocuous project like this can quickly add up to real money. While under the car I am sure you will come across parts you want to replace. Is the local auto store OK, or must you have NOS. The rubber bits will more than likely need replaced as well.
Then there is the paint. Will a simple enamel be ok? Or do you want a base coat / clear coat paint? Or something even more?
And then there is the labor. For the most part you get what you pay for. But if you have a friend that is a good bodyman and owes you a favor, then you could get a good deal.
When it comes to shopping for paint and body, use references. And not jobs within the last 1- 2 years. Go as far back as you can. I am assuming that you will want to keep the car for a while. So don't settle for 1-2 year old references.
As you can see, this is no simple question. You might be able to get by for $2500. Or if you have Jay Leno money, you could spend $25,000. Set yourself an amount you are comfortable spending, then shop around to see what that type of money will get you.
Mahalo!!

done... The engine and all components are fine, and then interior is
also very nice. I just want to get all the surface rust off the bottom
to make this car really shine. I was also thinking of changing the
color too, which if it's been all taken off is easy to do. it's a 1973
Mustang convertible. Then the engine compartment and everything else I
can go paint and do later, I just want to get the THICK coating of
rust protection off the bottom and get some shiny things down there so
it looks nice.
