I was thinking of using fusible wire at first then it occurred to me if I had a problem on the road and the fuse link melted I would have to replace the link after fixing the problem to get the car home. If, by some chance I found a problem but another had developed from melted insulation or something, the new fuse link would melt as well. With a curcuit breaker going on and off quickly you stand a better chance of finding and repairing a short rather than melting the link which cuts off power all together.
