Carpet was considered standard, as were the bucket seats. Both, I think
were options on other vehicles; hence "standard" upgrades on the
Mustang. The heater was also standard, but could be deleted for credit
from the base car by special order. I'm pretty sure a driver's side mirror
was required by law (but I could be wrong there).

Technically, if you look at the VIN and data plate codes, all "64 1/2" cars
are really 1965 model year vehicles. The date code month, for example, for
a May/64 car would be "D", while one assembled in May/65 would be "S". The
65 model year was the only one I'm aware of for a Mustang where more than
12 month codes were actually used (a total of 16 or 17 were used, I
believe) to cover April 1964 through August 1966 when production started on
the '66 model year.
