Some other areas to check.  The area where the firewall meets the fender aprons.  I too have a 64 1/2 that has been garaged for most of it's life.  Most of the time it was raced (hill climbs and drag strip).  not a lot of miles but a LOT of rust.  No under coating.  I have been very surprised by the amount of rust for a car that did not get out that often.

 

Also check the rear quarter and tub interface and the rear spring areas as well. 

 

If it is as solid as you mention, you will have a VERY good foundation to start from!!!

I have an opportunity to purchase a 64-1/2 Mustang hardtop with a 260-2V engine with C4 trans.  It is 100% stock, and from the original owner with 32,196 miles and has center console.  Car has sat since 1972, and has an engine problem, and at this point I have to assume it is seized.  The right valve cover is missing and has been open to the elements for who knows how long.  It appears the entire car is there except the air cleaner.  Body is straight except for the front valance.  No visible rust, and floor pans seem sound except for some surface rust.  Interior is original, however does have musty smell.  Exterior chrome is pitted.  Car was garaged.  I would like to purchase it, but looking for some sense of value to make an offer.  Thanks for your help, Phil.
