[Classic Mustang] Re:Rear spoiler location Help 1971 Mach 1

F-150tilt,
I don't know the specs, but I agree, you need to get it right.
There's nothing that looks worse than a spoiler in the wrong location.
Sticks out like a sore thumb...LOL. If you can't find out for sure,
just keep looking around for another Mach-1, maybe around town, or at a
cruise-in, etc. (only if it looks right, of course). Just be sure to
keep a small tape measure on you, and something to write the
measurements on. I did that once, when I was painting an old 70 Duster
I used to own. ( I know, this is a Mustang group...Just shoot
me...LOL). But anyway, I was needing a pattern for the ends ot the
"340" stripes that came on those, so I could paint the stripes on mine.
I rode around for several months with a pencil and notebook paper,
until I saw the only one in town that had the original decals on it. I
eventually ran across the guy and pulled him over, so I could copy his
stripes. Kinda' freaked him out, 'till he figured out what I
wanted...LOL. OK, back to Mustangs..... I also painted the "C" stripes
on my '68 Fastback, instead of using the tape stripes. Of course I
had that image memorized, so I just laid those out with fine line tape,
and painted them on (red stripe first about 8" wide first), then black
body color last. That way the red stripe paint was under the black, and
don't tend to peel off. I think it looks better too, and it's easier
than trying to get tape decals on right. Well, kinda' getting off
topic, but just look around 'till you see one, and get the
measurements. Just had a thought.....I can't remember where I saw it,
but I believe I saw a paper template somewhere (maybe from a spoiler
kit, or a catalog), that you just lay on the car, tape it in place, and
mark the holes. I know a friend of mine had a catalog from one of the
Mustang parts suppliers, and they had the measurements (or templates)
etc in the catalog, for locating stripe kits. They might have the same
for spoiler locations. I'll try to get him on the phone soon, and ask
which catalog it was. I'll see what I can do. You could maybe call or
e-mail one of the places that sell spoilers etc, and ask if they have
templates available?
