[Classic Mustang] Re: Media Blasting

You can use sand but have to be careful as heat buildup will warp thinner gauge metal.  The engine compartment has heavier gauge metal than body panels.  However, if you blast at an angle and keep the media stream moving, you will prevent heat.   Starblast is another abrasive that you can use and is effective on rust, but must be treated the same as sand as far as warpage is concerned.  Soda blasting will remove paint but not body filler or rust--or at least deep rust.  If your piece has surface rust, it should clean up with soda blasting.  I would assume that you're going to have this done--or are you doing it yourself?  Soda blasting requires special equipment.  And like was suggested before, Eastwood has some good resources on media blasting.

Good luck.
